Now that the advent of 3D HD television sets are upon us, ESPN has jumped the gun and announced the launch of ESPN 3D.
The new network will begin broadcasting this year and plans to feature 85 live sporting events starting with 2010 FIFA World Cup match on June 11th. Other 3D events will include the Summer X Games, college basketball and college football. Although, it is not known which cable TV operators will carry the channel.
“ESPN’s commitment to 3D is a win for fans and our business partners,” said ESPN and ABC Sports President, George Bodenheimer. “ESPN 3D marries great content with new technology to enhance the fan’s viewing experience and puts ESPN at the forefront of the next big advance for TV viewing.”
