It looks like athletes aren’t the only ones getting suspended these days! Now the sports writers are, too!
Just last week, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell finally held a press conference to talk about some of the turmoil surrounding the league, especially the Ray Rice domestic violence scandal.

However, not everyone was happy with his generic answers and question dodging, and one of those people was ESPN writer Bill Simmons, who did not hide his feelings about the controversial commish!
In fact, the veteran writer got the perfect chance to share his feelings with the world on his podcast, where he called out Roger Goodell’s claims that the league had no knowledge of the tape showing Ray Rice punching his wife, Janay Rice:
“Goodell, if he didn’t know what was on that tape, he’s a liar. I’m just saying it. He is lying. I think that dude is lying. If you put him up on a lie detector test that guy would fail. For all these people to pretend they didn’t know is such fucking bullshit. It really is ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ it’s such fucking bullshit. And for him to go in that press conference and pretend otherwise, I was so insulted. I really was.”
You’re definitely not alone, Bill. Unfortunately, he didn’t stop there as he went on to call out his employers at ESPN and literally dared them to suspend him for his comments.
So they did.

Bill was suspended for a total of three weeks for calling out the commissioner, which means his suspension for speaking his mind was even longer than Ray Rice’s original 2 week suspension which triggered this whole mess in the first place!
Bill, known to his fans as “The Sports Guy,” has a reputation for saying EXACTLY what’s on his mind, and his loyal legion of fans have already come to his support and have gotten the hashtag #FreeSimmons trending on Twitter!
Hopefully ESPN eventually comes to their senses and realizes Bill was simply saying what we’re all thinking!
