Someone OTHER than Joaquin Phoenix is calling BULLPOOP on award shows like The Oscars!
Before Midnight star Ethan Hawke recently expressed his distaste for the way movies are evaluated in America, and called box office gross reports and movie award shows “asinine” and “destructive!”
Ethan shares in the Spring 2013 issue of Gotham magazine, on stands Monday 2/25:
“People want to turn everything in this country into a competition… [so] it├óΓé¼Γäós clear who the winner is and who the loser is. It├óΓé¼Γäós why they like to announce the grosses of movies, because it├óΓé¼Γäós a way of saying, ├óΓé¼╦£This one is No. 1.├óΓé¼Γäó It├óΓé¼Γäós so asinine… if you look at how many forgettable, stupid movies have won Oscars and how many mediocre performers have Oscars above their fireplace. Making a priority of chasing these fake carrots and money and dubious accolades, I think it├óΓé¼Γäós really destructive.”
Well, he’s got a point!
And just think about how much these Hollywood masturbation spectacles COST to construct! It’s definitely NOT cheap… the gift bags alone are usually worth THOUSANDS!
But without shows like the Oscars, how will we know WHO is good and who totally SUX?! Will we have to simply judge for OURSELVES?! LOLzzz.
Seriously though, without the golden Os we would totally miss out on AWEsome events like a mega-musicals tribute!
Not to mention all the HIGHlariously awkward moments…
