Grab your tissues. You’ll need them for the new fan interpretation of Euphoria‘s ending.
As you likely know by now, the finale of the HBO show saw Rue Bennett (Zendaya) die. She relapsed and overdosed on a painkiller secretly laced with fentanyl that she got from the drug lord Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) after Maddy (Alexa Demie) spilled the beans to him that she was working undercover for the DEA. It’s a gut-wrenching end — one fans aren’t happy with! But maybe there’s a happy(ish) ending after all as now there’s a theory emerging that may bring some peace (and tears) to folks!

Remember how Rue ends up at the Miller family homestead in Texas at the beginning of Season 3? She meets their cow Dahlia, who has “the best f**king milk I’ve ever had.” And when Rue eventually goes to leave, the eldest daughter, Daisy, tells her to come back in the spring to meet Dahlia’s baby calf. Rue then spends the entire season wanting to return to and live at the homestead because she thinks it is the “promised land.” Fans are devastated she never gets her happy ending there, but what if she did all along?
When Rue’s sponsor Ali Muhammed (Colman Domingo) visits the homestead after avenging her, the Miller family revealed their “miracle” calf was born three months ago — right around the time she died. People now think Rue was reincarnated as the family’s baby cow, which means she got her wish in the end! Other signs that this theory could be true? While Rue is hallucinating amid her death, there is a shot of a “Milk” sign at Fezco’s convenience store. Ali also sees Rue at the Miller family dinner table.
So if true, Rue finally found her peace at the homestead like she wanted. And you know what? Fans can all probably agree it’s way better to think of this as the ending than her just dying! Ch-ch-check out the theory (below):
