How disappointing!
In order to save $$$$$$, Disney has decided to close the doors to their Bay Area-based motion capture facility!
The Marin County studio was built by ImageMovers Digital, a company co-owned by director Robert Zemeckis and Disney, and the technology was used for Jim Carrey‘s performance in A Christmas Carol.
“Given today’s economic realities, we need to find alternative ways to bring creative content to audiences and IMD no longer fits into our business model,” said Walt Disney Studios prez Alan Bergman.
The facility will be closed after Zemeckis finishes using the studio for the upcoming Mars Needs Moms!, with the doors officially closing in January 2011 and 450 employees out of a job.
Sad!
