Delish Q&A with Margaux J. Rathbun!
Perezcious mom, Molly, asks Perezitos.com‘s nutrition expert nutrition expert:
“I get so overwhelmed with all of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients out there. What are some of the top nutrients that I should be including in my child’s diet?”
Here’s what Marg has to say:
“It can be very confusing and overwhelming when you see how many nutrients our bodies need to stay healthy, especially for our kids!
Calcium is an important nutrient because in addition to promoting strong bones it helps with heart and muscle functioning. Have your kids eat foods full of calcium like Swiss chard, broccoli, yogurt, kale, and spinach. Fiber is another nutrient that your child needs to maintain a healthy digestive system. Some of my favorite fiber-rich foods include chia seeds, lentils, beans, whole grains, and squash.
In addition to calcium and fiber, I think that vitamin D is important for children. This is because most of us don’t get enough of it on a daily basis. You can get vitamin D from cage-free organic eggs and organic whole milk. Omega-3 is important for cell growth, healthy brain function, and a strong heart. You can get omega-3 fatty acids from walnuts, flaxseeds, cabbage, and cauliflower.”
So, be sure to include calcium, fiber, vitamin D, and omega-3 to your child’s diet!
