You Might Start Seeing Exercise Labels Instead Of Advertised Calorie Counts On Products

People are always trying to find a better way to warn people about the junk they’re putting into their bodies. They thought easily displayed calories would do the trick. Not so much.
There’s a new idea now. How would you feel if you saw on a can of soda something like:
One Can = One Hour Of Running
Would that be more likely to get you to not drink it?
Thought so! A new report is saying that labels that tell you how much exercise is needed to work off the product is FAR more effective than the calorie count.

‘People generally underestimate the number of calories in the foods and beverages they consume. Providing easily understandable caloric information-particularly in the form of a physical activity equivalent, such as running-may reduce calorie intake from sugar-sweetened beverages and increase water consumption among low-income adolescents. Because of the health problems associated with junk food, it is critical to explore the most effective strategies for presenting caloric information to consumers on fast food restaurant menu boards.’

It’s a shame that sodas are the cause of some serious health complications, because we agree that they are delicious. And we’ll keep saying it until we’re blue: moderation is key!
But this seems like a great idea to us — not just to deter people, but rather to help inform people. We know it’d most likely help us plan what kind of activity we needed for the day!
