This was a real fact of life for Mrs. Garrett!
Charlotte Rae, best known for her role as Edna Garrett on Facts of Life has recently revealed in a memoir that not only was her ex-husband, Grammy Award-winning composer John Strauss gay, but that he had been unfaithful to her… for years!
After marrying in 1950 and having two kids, they moved into their first home in El Lay in the 1970s. That’s where Rae says that Strauss confessed that he had lied to her and betrayed her by seeing men behind her back.
In her book The Facts of My Life, Rae writes:
“First came the shock of what he had done behind my back, then the sting of being deceived for years. All I could feel was the betrayal and, worse than that, my shame.
John├óΓé¼Γäós secret confirmed my feelings of inferiority…That I was less than a woman…That I didn├óΓé¼Γäót deserve to be loved and valued.”
We can only imagine the hurt and shame she had felt, especially since the two were married for more than two decades. However, it was such a different time and we can only assume that it was a painfully confusing and difficult time for her husband to come out to her and their family.
We wonder what other shocking details she’s included in her book…?!?!
