Farm animals need doctors too!
Those studying to be veterinarians would rather work with pets than farm animals. Uh Oh!
According to a sruvey, only 2% of veterinary school students in the 2010 graduating class said planned to work with large, non-pet animals.
From 1998 to 2009 the number of small animal vets has grown considerably. They also tend to make more money and don’t have to travel very far out to farms to get to the animals.
Because of this decrease for large animal and farm vets, many schools with veterinary programs are offering loan repayment programs or other incentives if students pledges to work in a region in need of large-animal vets.
Being a vet for large animals may be a little tougher than dealing with dogs and kitties, however they are needed and do a lot of good!
