Katie Walsh Is Highest Placing Female Jockey EVA!

This is one giant gallop for women everywhere!
In a sport dominated by diminutive men, Katie Walsh dominated the headlines at the Grand National hunt horse race in Liverpool this past weekend.
The 27 year old jockey placed third, the highest placing by a woman, leaving many asking why women aren’t included more often in the sport.
Women should have an advantage, as the sport requires lighter, slimmer folks perched atop the goliathan horses and the fairer gender is naturally smaller.
Sadly, out of 435 UK jockeys, 46 are women.
But Allison Liddle of Women in Racing thinks times, they are a changin! She states:

While there is no doubt that ladies struggle with fitness and strength compared to the lads in the early stages, [they] find it easier to keep their weight down.
They also have greater ability to apply themselves and take on information. And the field is leveling.
Jockeyship is becoming more professional and standards are being raised.

Can Katie’s historical finish propel women into the sport?
We’ll soon find out! Congratulations, Katie!
