Fiji Water Shutting Down Operations In Fiji

The “Fiji” is about to be removed from Fiji water.

The bottled water company announced that it’s closing operations in Fiji after the country proposed a substantially increased the tax on extraction of the water. The tax hike won’t take effect until 2011, but will increase tax from ⅓ a cent to 15 cents a liter.

Prices aren├óΓé¼Γäót the only thing causing Fiji to abandon ship — a week ago David Roth, the Fiji Water Director of External Affairs, was deported from Fiji. The Fiji government claims that he was engaging in activities outside of his work permit.

The company’s plans are uncertain for now, but they have a backup spring in New Zealand that they may need to rely on.

If you├óΓé¼Γäóre a fan of Fiji Water, you better start stocking up now — it may not be around for much longer!
