You don’t even have to provoke them! Just swim around a while and if you’re lucky, some hungry beast might try to take a chunk out of you!
Florida had 23 unprovoked shark attacks last year, the most of any place in the world.
Now, don’t pack up and leave Florida or anything, out of the ten fatal attacks last year around the world, none of them were in Florida.
Worldwide there were a total of 72 unprovoked shark attacks last year.
13 of those were in Hawaii, 10 were in Australia, 6 were in South Carolina and South Africa had 5. Of all the other places that had unprovoked attack, none had more than three.
Florida has averaged 21 unprovoked shark attacks a year over the past ten years.
Whatever it is about Florida that makes sharks wanna fight, we don’t know. All we know is we won’t be paddling out off Florida’s coast anytime soon.
