Bad news, America — food is getting more expensive, and it├óΓé¼Γäós only going to get worse.
Cold weather is mostly responsible for the highest spike in wholesale food prices in 36 years last month. Restaurants and grocery stores have already been reacting to the price hike by charging more for food. Wendy’s now only puts tomatoes on burgers by request, and Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts are charging more for coffee.
Prices rose by 3.9% last month, mostly because of freezes in Texas and Florida that killed off a lot of crops.
“It has thrown the whole industry into a tizzy,” says Dan Bates, director of merchandising for the produce division of grocery chain Supervalu Inc.
Time to tighten your belts and start being more careful with how you spend your money at that grocery store!
