When it comes to professional sports, they’re just like any other job.
So many decisions made are often, cold, calculating business decisions. It’s a numbers game and teams have to win and make money.
So when Devon Still couldn’t give 100% on the field, the Cincinnati Bengals cut him from their team.
What’s amazing though is they re-signed him to the practice squad just so he could continue to receive a solid paycheck.
Why would a team go out of their way to help an underperforming player?
Because his daughter has cancer.
Devon’s gameplay was suffering because he couldn’t be 100% in the game knowing his daughter was battling stage 4 pediatric cancer.
He said:
“I completely understand where the Bengals were coming from when they cut me because I couldn’t give football 100 percent right now. They could have washed their hands with me and said they didn├óΓé¼Γäót care about what I was going through off the field. It’s like a blessing in disguise for me. We’re going to go to battle with cancer. She’s willing to put up a fight to beat it.”
So he’s obviously upset he was cut but still so grateful he’ll at least collect a crazy $6,300-a-week paycheck.
Plus, he gets full health coverage which is great for his daughter’s sake.
So amazing that there really are some truly caring people in such a brutal sport.
We wish his daughter nothing but a full recovery!!
