Former Prada Japan Employee Sues The Company

As we mentioned last month, Prada Japan was facing some harsh accusations from a former employee.

According to 36-year-old Rina Bovrisse, CEO Davide Sesia didn’t want people working at his stores that were “old, fat, ugly, disgusting or not having the Prada look.”

So as a senior retail manager, Bovrisse was told to fire about 15 staff members that were deemed too ugly or old. She claims she was also fired because she was too overweight and unattractive.

Shortly after the accusations, Prada Japan issued a public statement denying the claims.

And now Rina has teamed up with two former employees and is suing for unfair dismissal. The court case will begin on May 14th with Rina seeking to overturn her dismissal.

In a news conference held in Tokyo, Rina stated:

“I’m here to take a stand for Japanese women who have been victims of harassment and discrimination at the workplace. I love this country. I’m proud to be Japanese… as a hard-working female, but the only issue that I saw in Japan was that the working environment was not (as) safe as overseas. I would like to be part of the next step, to create a (safe) environment. If we face an issue now, it should be solved within our generation.”

Rina added she was told she was too “aged, ugly, fat, bad body shape, bad teeth, disgusting and not cute” and was told to change her hairstyle, lose some weight, and fit the “Prada look.”

So, just what exactly is the Prada look? Young, slim, and gorgeous only?
