At least he’s fessing up!
Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley is now apologizing for his wife’s silly decision to run the Boston Marathon using ANOTHER runner’s official number.
Dennis explained that he and his wife, Chelsa Crowley, only stole the digits in hopes of completing the marathon earlier this week together after being separated after last year’s bombing.
In a letter written on his personal blog, the app entrepreneur said:
“Yes, using a duplicate number to get Chelsa into the starting corral with me was wrong. I don’t expect everyone to understand our strong need to run and finish together — but after trying unsuccessfully to get a charity number and trying unsuccessfully to officially transfer a number from an injured-runner friend, we did what we could to make sure we could run together in hopes of finishing together. I sent an email to Kathy Brown, the woman who rightfully earned #34033 to apologize for any disrespect, hurt feelings or confusion. Our intent was never to ‘steal’ anything from anyone — our intent was to finish the Boston Marathon together as we tried to do last year.”
Hmmmm…
While it’s totally sad Chelsa wasn’t able to register, our mamas always taught us that stealing was NEVER right. Not only did they not pay the fees, but they also took away from Kathy’s experience!
Seeing as Foursquare is one of the most popular apps EVER, we suggest the Crowleys use their fortune to at least make sure organizers get their rightful cash.
Regardless, Dennis DOES sound sincere and based on the public outrage, we doubt he’ll be snatching numbers ever again!
