Apparently Fox News is undergoing a course change, and has been doing so quietly this past year.
We didn’t notice.
Though, when we look back, we think we can see what chief Roger Ailes is talking about. At least a little bit:
Ailes discusses the changes he’s making to the organization that Fox executives have privately said became even more conservative following the election of President Barack Obama. Efforts are underway to fix that, starting with Ailes ordering his anchors to “tone it down” in January following the Gabrielle Giffords shooting.
Other moves Ailes has made include parting ways with controversial host Glenn Beck (who went on to found his own online-only network), and more carefully positioning Sarah Palin, who has been on Fox as a pundit, but is flirting with a possible presidential run.
We’ll give them Beck — that dude should be distanced from everyone. And we’re glad to see the position change with Palin as well. But beyond that, what’s happened? “Toning it down” ?
We’re not saying that Fox should become a liberal media source — there are legitimate political ideas that have to do with finances and economy and plans and stuff like that are more than valid. And everyone should be able to hear all the sides, regardless of stance.
What we WOULD like to see is some support for equality, you know? And perhaps some fair balance?
