Despite the pilot receiving critical acclaim, Fox’s Lone Star, which follows a con-man juggling two unknowing woman, may be canceled after a terrible debut on Monday night.
“No one in TV should be happy about this,” said an agent who reps a writer on the the show. “This is going to have a chilling effect on networks taking chances on anything but cookie-cutter shows.”
But the ratings were so bad that the network can’t find a glimmer of hope with the show. A mere 4.1 million viewers tuned in for Lone Star, which is horribly low after the season premiere of House as a lead-in.
“Those are Friday night numbers on a Monday night premiere,” said Brad Adgate, TV analyst with Horizon Media. “That’s a nice cable audience. A program like this is either going to be a huge hit or land with a resounding thud. There’s usually no in-between.”
The show may not be canceled and just moved to another time slot, but something better happen fast.
