But…then what would they do? Actually get up and speak to their co-workers?!?!?!?!?
French tech company Atos Origin has announced plans to ban internal e-mail within the next two years.
Here’s what CEO Thierry Breton had to say about it in a statement:
“We are producing data on a massive scale that is fast polluting our working environments and also encroaching into our personal lives. At Atos Origin we are taking action now to reverse this trend.”
More from Breton:
“If people want to talk to me, they can come and visit me, call or send me a text message. Emails cannot replace the spoken word.”
According to a spokeswoman from the company, the overall response to this proposed policy has been positive, and company emails have already decreased by 20% in six months!
We fully support this idea! Obviously we wouldn’t want companies to start using massive amounts of paper like they used to back in the day, but actual face-to-face communication is great! And instant messaging-type services can also be a good alternative!
…We’d be curious to hear what the punishment would be for sending off an email, though. Perhaps THAT employee would be downgraded to a 56K modem! Remember those? LOLz!
What do U think? Would U like to work in an office without email???
