Fuckjerry Founder Elliot Tebele Apologizes For Stealing Jokes After Backlash On Instagram

fuckjerry-apology-elliot-tebele

Founder of the popular Instagram account @fuckjerry, Elliot Tebele, is apologizing for being part of the content and meme stealing culture on social media, and is vowing to not post anything without identifying the creator’s consent before posting.
The apology from the founder comes after heavy backlash because of the account’s involvement as the marketing firm behind the failed Fyre Festival, in addition to mounting pressure to give credit where it’s due before posting on their feed.

Read highlights from the policy change post (below):

“Given the conversations over the past few days, and the issues that have come to light, it is clear however, that we need to do better.

Effective immediately, we will no longer post content when we cannot identify the creator, and will require the original creator’s advanced consent before publishing their content to our followers. It is clear that attribution is no longer sufficient, so permission will become the new policy.

As the social media landscape changes, we know our policies will have to continue to evolve, and we look forward to engaging with our followers and Instagram in conversations about these important issues. We want to apologize to anyone who feels we have wronged them in the past. We want to do the right thing by creators by seeking permission and giving them the credit they deserve.”

Over the past several days, more than a few Instagrammers, including John Mulaney, and Tom Hanks‘ son Colin Hanks, have shared posts urging followers to unfollow the account:
