An aid to Gabrielle Giffords has reported that the congresswoman still isn’t aware of the details of the shooting that caused her to be hospitalized.
She does know that there was a traumatic event, but hasn’t been told it was a shooting. Her caretakers and family are waiting until she is able to communicate fully again before telling her.
Said Pia Carusone, Giffords’ Chief of Staff:
“Doctors have said it’s not really fair, as you can imagine, to tell someone something so tragic and someone that might not have the ability to ask the detailed questions that someone will have when they hear this news.”
Carusone did say that Giffords is slowly getting better at communicating:
“Short phrases, simple thoughts. There’s no doubt that she understands what’s happening around her. She laughs at the appropriate times.”
It’s amazing how well she is recovering! All we can hope is that she continues to make progress!
