Game Of Thrones may be coming to an end sooner than we’d like, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of Westeros!
Over the weekend, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss confirmed a few rumors about the final two seasons of the Emmy-winning series — along with any future shows that might be adapted from the fucked up mind of George R.R. Martin.
Appearing at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, Weiss and Benioff took part in a Q&A hosted by Stark sisters Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams.

During the sit down, the producers confirmed Ed Sheeran would be making an appearance in the upcoming season, and revealed that the final eighth season would only be six episodes long.
But that tragic news came with a silver lining when the writers were asked about the show’s future, as the dynamic duo suggested a Westerosi spin-off was likely to happen.
Addressing speculation around a potential spin-off involving the surviving characters, they said:
“There’s always going be an urge ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ the characters who maybe will survive ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ there’s always going to be this temptation to keep doing it; to do the spin-off show or do the sequel show and everything. And I think HBO might well do one.”
Considering what a hit GoT has become with fans and critics — and the fact that we’ve barely scratched the surface exploring the world of Westeros — we can’t imagine HBO not journeying further into Martin’s expansive universe.

We mean, we couldn’t think of a pair of side characters that wouldn’t make for a good spinoff. We already can see Brienne of Tarth and Podrick in a Westerosi version of The Odd Couple!
But while a spin-off to the HBO fantasy hit is very likely to see life, that doesn’t mean the GoT producers are willing to be apart of it. In fact, Benioff added that he thinks “it’s better for them to get new blood in with new visions.”
We don’t blame them for not wanting to follow up the biggest television phenomenon in decades!
