This is so sad.
George Gaynes, who was most famously known for his roles in Police Academy, Punky Brewster, and Tootsie, reportedly passed away on Monday at the age of 98.
On Tuesday, the actor’s daughter, Iya Gaynes Falcone Brown, confirmed the loss of her father to the New York Times.

While George appeared in several TV shows, he also starred in all seven of the Police Academy movies and has 35 film credits to his name!
However, some people might remember him for his role as Henry Warnimont on Punky Brewster. The elderly actor played a building manager who adopts an abandoned girl played by Soleil Moon Frye and becomes her foster parent.
Upon hearing the news, Soleil took to Twitter to share a heartfelt message saying:
The universe just gained a gigantic star. You will be in my heart and soul always & forever.
Your little Punky
RIP George Gaynes

Tears!
Gaynes ended up retiring in 2003 after his appearance in Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy‘s comedy Just Married.
The Tootsie star is survived by his wife, Allyn Ann McLerie, his daughter, one granddaughter, and two-great granddaughters. Sadly his son, Matthew, died in a car crash in 1989.
George will be missed and our hearts go out to those affected by his death.
