German President Boycotts The 2014 Sochi Olympics!

It looks like someone is finally taking a stand!
German president Joachim Gauck says he does NOT plan of traveling to Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympics in protest of Russia’s laws banning gay “propoganda.”
President Gauck has been very vocal in his disapproval of the controversial legislation saying that it is a violation of human rights. He has not paid any official visits to Russia since he has come into office in 2012.
Germany will still have a presence at the olympics as athletes are still planning on participating, but they said there was no plan for the president to join them. However, he WILL be a part of the welcoming party for athletes in Munich after the games.
President Gauck’s office confirmed that he wont be traveling to Sochi in February, but they hesitated to call the move a boycott. Still, he’s the first major political figure to take a stance against Russia hosting the olympics, despite their anti-gay legislation.
You go, Mr. President!
