While in Dubai promoting her collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger, Gigi Hadid got on the topic of her Middle Eastern heritage and shared in an interview that her ancestry bonds her and BF Zayn Malik. Only problem is, the former One Direction member is Pakistani — which is not a part of the Middle East. Merp!

Miz Hadid shared:
“I especially love it when you meet other Arabs. There’s such a sense of family regardless of whether you are blood related or not anywhere in the world. When someone comes up to me and they tell me, ├óΓé¼╦£I’m Palestinian’ and we make a connection, it’s beautiful.
My boyfriend is also half Middle Eastern. It’s just a connection that you make that’s really cool. It’s hard to explain but you feel like you’re amongst [your] people.”
Obviously, fans have since taken to Twitter to call out the blonde beauty for not knowing her boyfriend’s ethnicity (below). Awkward!

We have a feeling the It Girl is going to have a hard time living this one down.
The crazy thing is that the 21-year-old’s team advised the journalist interviewing their client to avoid discussing her Arab background, her close friendship with fellow model Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian West‘s robbery, her Paris Fashion Week attack, etc. And the girl STILL got into some hot water.
Tsk, tsk. Still, the fashionista seems to be doing just fine amid this scandal as she recently took to Snapchat to flaunt her latest international trip to Japan (below).
