A Florida man is facing charges after leaving his dog to die in the Hurricane Milton floods.
Earlier this month, the Florida Highway Patrol shared a heartbreaking video on X (Twitter) of a dog mercilessly tied to a fence off Interstate 75 in Tampa and abandoned amid the devastating hurricane. The dog was stranded in floodwaters up to its chest with no other option than to just stand there and await its fate. It was clearly terrified and reluctant to accept help, too. But it was ultimately rescued by a state trooper. Thank goodness!!
You can watch the video (below) — but be warned, as it’s a pretty saddening sight.

The dog is okay now, and the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles said it’s being affectionately and appropriately referred to as Trooper. Awww!
But, like, seriously who TF would leave the poor pooch stranded like that while people were evacuating the dangerous area? Just so totally and completely heartless! But we don’t have to wonder any longer about that, because the man responsible has been tracked down. And now, he’s facing justice!

According to the department, Trooper’s former owner has been identified as 23-year-old Giovanny Aldama Garcia of Ruskin, Florida. And he was arrested on Monday for aggravated animal cruelty — which is a felony! The arrest affidavit, obtained by ABC News, reads:
“Due to the circumstances, and the extreme danger and risk of death caused by the defendant to the dog, the defendant’s actions caused excessive unnecessary infliction of pain and suffering to the dog.”
Giovanny was released on Tuesday on a $2,500 bond, but state attorney Suzy Lopez announced in a statement the same day that he will face “consequences”:
“We take this crime very seriously and this defendant will face the consequences of his actions.”
As he should!!! Reactions??
