This is just wrong.
A seller that specializes in fine art is trying to auction off Estelle Getty‘s Emmy for $15,000 on eBay.
Some people will do anything to make a buck these days!
The deceased actress won the Emmy in question in 1988 for her role as Sophia on The Golden Girls.
Luckily, The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is working to have the auction of the trophy removed.
Academy VP Laurel Whitcomb, says “When the Emmy winner wins, they sign a form acknowledging the statue is a loan and can keep it as long as they desire. But if they part with it, they must give it back to the Academy. We’ve taken steps to have it taken off the market and retrieved.”
We’re sure the Academy will get their request.
