As per tradition after any major award season announcement, cinephiles and TV lovers alike were left feeling a mix of disappointment and shock following Monday morning’s 2020 Golden Globes nominations.
Of course, there was plenty to celebrate, too!

But the most outstanding snub goes to…

Network Television
Sorry, This Is Us fans! The NBC drama which has received massive praise in the past was among those left out of this year’s nominations. Furthermore, there were no television shows nominated from any of the other major networks: ABC, CBS, or Fox.
HBO Series
But network TV wasn’t alone in being left out of the running! While HBO’s Big Little Lies and Barry received nominations, two of the long-running series which we said goodbye to in 2019, Game of Thrones and Veep, did not receive any. Similarly, Zendaya-led Euphoria brought home zero noms, along with the limited series Watchmen.
Female Directors
Unfortunately, it’s not a major surprise that female directors have been snubbed, since they have been in the past, and it seems we’ve taken steps back this year as every best director nominee was a man.
Let’s do better, people!!
Robert De Niro
Although The Irishman nabbed five nominations, none went to Robert De Niro, who went back in time and forward again for his role as assassin Frank Sheeran in Martin Scorsese‘s epic.
‘Cats’
It was too little, too late for Cats, which has yet to premiere. While HFPA members did receive screeners of the forthcoming film, it only landed one nomination for Best Original Song, written and sung by none other than the feline queen herself, Taylor Swift.
Miz Swift is going head to head with another icon, Beyoncé, who received a nomination for her song Spirit from The Lion King.
‘The Handmaid’s Tale’
The Handmaid’s Tale starring Elizabeth Moss was completely shut out of nominations for its third season.
