Goo Hara K-Pop star dead at 28

Popular K-Pop singer and former Kara member Goo Hara has been found dead at her home, according to reports out across multiple media outlets on Sunday morning. She was 28 years old.

The popular singer was reportedly found dead at about 6:30 p.m. local time on Sunday night in South Korea, according to the Gangnam Police Department, which released a statement about their ongoing investigation. Journalists working in Seoul later confirmed that it was the high-profile pop singer and celebrity who had passed away.

“We received a report on November 24, 6:30 pm KST about a death,” the police department first noted in a statement. “We are currently investigating the cause.”

Laura Bicker, The Seoul correspondent working for the BBC, later confirmed the news of Goo Hara’s death in her own reporting, confirming some of what the police had announced while adding:

“The South Korean celebrity Goo Hara, a former member of popular K-pop girl group Kara has been found dead at her home. The 28-year-old was found dead around 6pm. We are awaiting more details. So sad.”

Very, very sad, especially considering how young she was. Ugh.

R.I.P.

Sad History Here…

Back in May, Hara was reportedly found unconscious at her home and rushed to the hospital after she allegedly had attempted suicide. At the time, she was involved in an ongoing dispute with an ex-boyfriend of hers, and he was threatening to circulate a sex video to ruin her career. We can’t even imagine how stressful and awful that ordeal must have been.

At this point, though, it’s unclear if her death here was related to that in any way. We’ll likely know more soon as the police continue to investigate in the coming days and weeks.

Hara had been a longtime member of the girl group Kara, which also included singers Park Gyu-ri and Han Seung-yeon. After the group split, the singer made her solo debut back in 2015, releasing the EP Alohara (Can You Feel It?) to much fanfare in Korea.

Tragically, her death comes just one month after the passing of fellow Soth Korean singer Sulli, who had ben part of the K-Pop group f(x). Sulli passed away at just 25 years old.

Clearly, Goo Hara has passed away far too soon. Ugh. Such a tragedy — and we send our condolences and thoughts to her friends, family, and loved ones. Very sad.

Rest in peace…
