If you ever wanted to check out Abu Dhabi’s Liwa Oasis (a very scenic desert), from the comfort of your own home — you’re in luck.
Google recently hired a local camel to capture a ‘street view,’ of the desert by affixing Google’s Trekker camera to the animal’s hump. Google’s trekker camera is usually placed on the top of cars, so this low-tech solution was definitely a first for the company!!

Google spokeswoman, Monica Baz, explained:
“With every environment and every location, we try to customize the capture and how we do it for that part of the environment. In the case of Liwa we fashioned it in a way so that it goes on a camel so that it can capture imagery in the best, most authentic and least damaging way.”
Seems very ‘authentic’ to us!
The Liwa Oasis boats some of the biggest sand dunes in the world, so we’re glad the camel was able to capture the magnificence of the desert on camera!
