Grammys 2018: Lorde Backs Out Of Performing After Being Asked To Sing As Part Of A Tom Petty Tribute

no title
We’ve got a little pre-Grammys drama here on the morning of the show!
Lorde, who is one of five artists nominated for Album of the Year, will NOT be performing at the Grammys tonight because — now we know exact reasons, from a TMZ report — she was only offered an opportunity to perform as one member of a larger group of artists doing a Tom Petty tribute song.

The other four nominees — all men, including Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, and JAY-Z — all got offers to perform their own tracks solo.
Jay turned them down completely, but it appears the other three will all perform their tracks as nominees for Album of the Year… but not Lorde.
Word is she won’t even be on the red carpet before the show, because she didn’t want to be too involved after a “heated back and forth” where she was only offered a chance to sing as part of that tribute to Petty.
In an awards show season already filled with black dresses, and the #MeToo movement, and the activist work of Time’s Up, it’s pretty remarkable that the folks from the Grammys would be THIS tone-deaf to having Lorde perform just as all the men in the same category.
