Since sharing news of the tragic passing of his three-year-old son, Granger Smith has been met by an outpouring of love and support via social media.
The country singer shared the news via Instagram on Thursday, explaining that River Kelly Smith suffered a “tragic accident” and was unfortunately “unable to be revived” by his doctors.
In his original post, he did not elaborate on the nature of his passing, however his rep has confirmed to People that his death was due to a drowning accident at home.

The crooner explained the unthinkable news of his son’s death by writing:
“Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts. If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this.”
The 39-year-old then concluded his difficult caption by saying:
“In lieu of flowers or gifts, please send donations to Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name. The doctors, nurses and staff have been incredible.”
Many musical artists and celebrities have rallied around Smith with their support. Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, and Luke Bryan respectively commented:
“I cant imagine what y’all are going thru. Praying for u and ur family brother. We are heartbroken for u guys.”
“I’m here for you if you need anything at all bro just hit me up ??”
“Many prayers. So sorry”
Dan + Shay, Maren Morris, and Jake Owen are among the thousands more who have chimed in with love and words of encouragement for the family:
“Heartbroken for you and your family. Sending all the love. ❤️”

The Backroad Song musician and his wife Amber Smith are also parents to seven-year-old daughter London, and five-year-old son Lincoln.
