Is Hailee Steinfeld pissed at her record label?? It certainly seems that way, and if we’re being honest… she ain’t wrong…
On Monday the Pitch Perfect 2 star did some self-promo on her Instagram feed, getting the word out on her upcoming album, Half Written Story.

She wrote:
“Half Written Story out May 8th. Pre-Save now ? (link in bio)”
Along with a pic of the very cute album cover.
Her label, Republic Records, responded with an encouraging:
“???”
But rather than give Hailee the heart feels, that comment just set her off. She snapped back at the company’s sentiment:
“you gonna post about it?”
Ooh, damn!
Gurl read her record label in front of the world! She is straight up accusing her label of not promoting her enough, and we are running to get the popcorn! Ordinarily we’d say don’t bite the hand that feeds, but we’d say Hailee’s bread and butter is her acting career — so she can afford to be bold and stand up for her worth here.
But is she in the right?
Well… here’s a question. Did YOU know Hailee dropped a new single a month ago??
It’s called I Love You’s and it’s a fun riff on the Annie Lennox classic No More I Love You’s. It’s really good. Kind of Dua Lipa meets Ariana Grande.
She even put out a music video on March 31. Did you see it?
Yeah, so gurl definitely isn’t getting promoted enough. But should the blame for no one knowing about Hailee’s new music fall at the feet of her label?
Well, probably.
We can’t say what Republic have and haven’t done by way of promotion all around, but a quick look at their IG account, which is what Hailee was responding to, shows they hadn’t posted about her in a month. The last promo for her music was on March 26 when the song came out; they didn’t even post about the music video.
In that time they posted about Post Malone four times, Drake three times, The Weeknd three times. Hmm.
The day after her public call-out, however, the Republic Records account did post about the album:

Hilariously, all the comments are folks dragging the company for having to be pushed into promoting their own artist:
“She dragged you guys lmao”
“u had to after she came after you ?”
“she ended yall”
“sad that she had to get onto you before you posted? but thank you!!”
“she really made y’all do it ???”
Well, looks like Hailee was right to stand up for herself after all! Know your worth, ladies!
