If Halsey could change a thing or two from her past, it sounds like she definitely would.
The Without Me singer, who uses she/they pronouns, opened up to Rolling Stone on Wednesday about a time she used a questionable method to get out of some legal trouble with cops… Which she’s NOT proud of. Speaking with the outlet, the Bad At Love singer reflected on a time they held a raging party at her house, which ultimately got shut down because of a noise complaint. It’s not clear when exactly this was, but the now-30-year-old recalled splashing around in her swimming pool in her bra and underwear at 3:00 a.m. when cops came knocking. But she wasn’t completely busted just yet…
They explained that the officers offered her a deal: in exchange for zero legal heat, the pop star would have to pose for a photo with the policemen. The downside? She was soaking wet in just her bra and underwear. But they obliged and the cops went on their way. Halsey explained that she didn’t think twice about it at the time, but the decision didn’t age well for her:
“It wasn’t until a couple of years later that I was like, ‘Damn, those cops just have a picture of me half naked on their phone. I’m sure it comes out in bars. Ah, don’t love that.”

Oof… That’s certainly enough to make anyone cringe. The fervor of youth, right? But for Halsey, it’s even more than just that. The photo is indicative of past versions of her whom she now desperately wishes she could protect:
“All those little versions of me that are out on their little side quests, floating around the world — I wish I could bring you back home so that you weren’t out there going through that. That picture on that phone, that nude on someone’s phone, that Polaroid photo, all those little versions of me in that intimate space whether consenting or not, that are out in the world that people were using for whatever, I wish I could call them back. That’s a really lonely feeling.”
Wow! When she puts it like that, it really makes you think!
Reflecting on having to ask someone to “delete all your nudes,” Halsey noted it’s an idea she juggles in her song Lonely Is the Muse:
“I’ve always wanted to be the Cool Girl. And asking someone to delete all your nudes is not very Cool Girl of you, even in the breakup. I’m different now, but that song is about a decade and a half of that.”
Basic human decency is something that will always be “cool”!
