A Message Of Reverence To J.K. Rowling From Severus Snape

This month’s Empire Magazine is devoted to the final film in the Harry Potter franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part Two. From cover to cover, the pages are filled with memories of the last ten years and eight films, with special anecdotes from the cast of what the franchise has meant to them.

Above, you can see a sentiment written by Alan Rickman who has brilliantly played Severus Snape in all of the Harry Potter films. In his brief but touching note, he thanks J.K. Rowling for bringing him into his magical world and shares how joyful it has been to have been working with the trio of stars – Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint – since they were youngsters.

Very sweet, Alan! We can really feel how thankful and appreciative you are of all of Jo’s work!

I have just returned from the dubbing studio where I spoke into a microphone as Severus Snap for the absolutely last time. On the screen were some flashback shots of Daniel, Emma and Rupert from ten years ago. They were 12. I have also recently returned from New York, and while I was there, I saw Daniel singing and dancing (brilliantly) on Broadway. A lifetime seems to have passed in minutes.

Three children have become adults since a phone call with Jo Rowling, containing one small clue, persuaded me that there was more to Snape than an unchanging costume, and that even though only three of the books were out at that time, she held the entire massive but delicate narrative in the surest of hands.

It is an ancient need to be told stories, But the story needs a great storyteller. Thanks for all of it, Jo.
