Henry Cavill Questions If The Oscars' Push For Diversity Is 'Racist' -- Read His Frank Thoughts On #OscarsSoWhite AND Making Big Actor Bucks!

He’s one blunt bloke!
The #OscarsSoWhite controversy shed major light on the lack of minority representation in Hollywood, which resulted in the Academy announcing it’s making efforts to diversify its membership!
Most people are taking this as a progressive and necessary step that will hopefully result in more diverse nominees in the years to come.

But not everyone thinks diversifying the group of people who vote for the Oscars will do much to solve the lack of diversity in Hollywood — and Henry Cavill can’t help but wonder if that logic is “racist in itself”!
In an interview with Man of the World, the Batman v Superman star weighed in on the hotly debated topic, noting that the voting process is “subjective.” He said:

“I honestly believe that every year there are people passed over who should have been nominated, and that there are people who shouldn’t have been nominated who are. And I don’t think anything has ever changed in that respect…But, that said, this year in particular, there seems to be a serious lack of black guys and girls being nominated.”

So Superman does agree #OscarsSoWhite was for real. But it’s the “solution” he has an issue with.
While the actor agreed the Academy diversifying its membership could work, he couldn’t help but find the logic in it a bit ironic! He said:

“Maybe the solution is to have more diversity in the members. But does that mean we are saying that to have more black academy members would result in more black nominations? Is that not racist itself?”

Hmm… we get what he’s trying to say — that it’s racist to think more black people will be nominated if there are more black voters — but he seems to be forgetting that diversification is really just about giving everyone an equal voice.
As for his own career, the 32-year-old doesn’t seem too concerned about winning awards — but thinks it’s “important” to get a hefty paycheck for his work! He explained:

“I’m slightly wary of saying this, because it can be frowned upon, certainly by members of my community and people outside my community├óΓé¼┬ªbut I’m not just doing this for the art. The money’s fantastic and that’s something which I deem├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥and again, it is frowned upon├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥very important.”

While Cavill understood his philosophy might rub some people the wrong way, Cavill admits that he’ll always have a penchant for the finer things in life, continuing:

“People will be calling me a cock as they’re reading this, but travel’s great as long as you’re going first class. I mean, traveling to New Zealand in economy, it sucks. Especially if you’re over six feet. But first class? I’m not going to ever pretend to be coy about that. I love it.”

Money may not buy happiness, but we’d certainly be smiling on a first class trip to New Zealand, too!
What do YOU think about the actor’s diversity comments?
