Mommy see, mommy do!
Home births and midwife assistance is becoming the ultimate trend thanks to Ricki Lake and her controversial documentary The Business of Being Born!!!
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of home births jumped over 30 percent for white women in the U.S. between 2004 and 2009.
While it may sound like EVERYBODY is doing this, only 1 percent of all births in the U.S. actually occur outside of a hospital, but the figure is slowly rising!!
And many of the moms seeking alternative birthing methods claim that Ricki’s doc definitely inspired them!
Preggers mom-to-be Lorelei Laird admits that although she├óΓé¼Γäós sticking to a more traditional hospital birth, the film “[is] famous … among women of childbearing age.├óΓé¼┬¥
Laurel Phillips, who runs the Santa Barbara Birth Center, says women CAN’T STOP talking about the documentary and often site it as an influence for using alternative birth methods such as midwifery or doulas during their labor.
She says:

“People coming to us saying, you know we never would have considered something like this, but we saw that movie and now we just have to explore our options.”

Organizations like the American Congress of Obstetrician and Gynecologists suggest to think twice before jumping on the trend, as hospital births are still the SAFEST way to ensure that babies and mom get quality care.
Interesting to say the LEAST!!!
What do U think about all this?!!!
