How Sean Penn Helped His Son Beat His Crystal Meth Addiction

Hopper Penn
Hopper Penn
is sharing his story.
In a new interview with ES magazine, the 23-year-old not only opens up about struggling with a crystal meth addiction, but also how his father Sean Penn helped him recover.
After growing up splitting time between his father and mother, House of Cards star Robin Wright, the young actor reveals he nearly ended up on the streets after getting hooked into drugs after falling into the “wrong crowd.”

He says:

“I was pretty bad. I just got caught a lot doing stuff, you know? Whether it was my parents or the cops. I was doing a lot of stuff, but meth was the main one that brought me down.”

Eventually, it was an ultimatum from his famous dad that helped him decide to get his act together.
The Fendi sunglasses model remembered:

“I went to rehab because I woke up in a hospital and my dad was like, ├óΓé¼╦£Rehab? Or bus bench?’ I was like, ├óΓé¼╦£I’ll take the bed.’ Thank God I got out of that because that was the worst time in my life. Because it’s not fun when it gets to a point where you just need it.”

Smart choice!
When asked about how he handled his A-list parents’ split, Hopper admits:

“Honestly? I was pretty mad, because they had split up before and then got back together, and then they did it again. So it was like, ├óΓé¼╦£Pick which one you’re gonna do.’ I was young and thinking: ├óΓé¼╦£Are you just fucking with me and my sister?’ I mean it was not the best. It was kind of tough talking to them. Because they were both pretty broken too, I think.”

But at the end of the day, he still thinks he lives a pretty “normal” life despite his pedigree:

“Some of the kids that grow up in Los Angeles with that life, they have this impression of themselves, like they’re more important than other people. But they’re not real to me. I don’t feel like I have a Hollywood family, really. I feel pretty normal.”

We’re just happy to hear he was able to kick his addiction!
