By the time they actually get around to remaking The Karate Kid, no one will care because so much has already been revealed about it. And that’s a good thing!
So in the Jaden Smith vehicle (produced by papa Will Smith, natch), his character has been renamed Dre, who has a penchant for skate boards and video games. His single mother relocates the family to China where, not knowing the language, Dre gets beat up. That’s when Jackie Chan, whose character has been renamed Li Quan Ha, comes in and teaches Dre the way of Kung-Fu, not karate.
But they’re keeping the name The Karate Kid – how else will they hook unsuspecting fans of the original?
