Next Monday, Illinois’ Gov. Pat Quinn will sign a new piece of legislation that will allow same-sex couples to enter into civil unions. The new law will allow gay and lesbian couples to use civil unions as a way to gain several of the same rights as married couples, including sharing a nursing home room to being involved in important end-of-life decisions.
Wonderful! A step in the right direction for sure!
For those of you in the Chicago area, go show your support for the Governor’s efforts by attending the signing ceremony at the Chicago Cultural Center. It’s open to the public, but you must RSVP with the governor’s office.
Thank you, Governor Quinn! Equality for all!
