Talk about an incredible journey!

An Italian “adventurer” (or basket case – you decide!) named Alex Bellini was just rescued after 10 months at sea alone in a row boat.

Bellini planned on crossing the Pacific in his row boat, starting off in Peru and rowing to Australia. After traveling more than 9,500 nautical miles, Bellini was caught in strong winds within 65 nautical miles of his goal, zapping his energy and forcing him to phone his wife for help.

Australian authorities came to his rescue, towing the boat to shore.

Bellini – who has also rowed solo across the Mediterranean and Atlantic seas – survived on dried foods and desalinated ocean water, occasionally utlizing a small cooker for a fried fish or pasta treat. He kept in communication with his family by satellite phone.

He said the toughest part of his journey was the sprawling solitude and absence of his wife. Which is why he enthusiastically greeted her when the couple was reunited despite how thin and exhausted he’d become.

He said that his intentions were not to set records, but to simply do it, and that “the other reason of my trip was making a trip inward. So it was discovering something of myself.”

Besides missing his wife, Bellini said he also found himself craving sweets, especially tiramisu and apple cake.

“I want all the sweets here in Sydney,” he joked.

At the moment, Bellini has no plans for a future row boat trip.

Good! That shiz is DANGEROUS!
