Jaden Smith
is changing the world!
The 17-year-old’s new Louis Vuitton ads have gotten a lot of praise for challenging how men and boys should look and dress.

Laverne Cox applauded the ads on Monday, writing:

@christiaingrey [Jaden Smith] is giving me full life in this new @louisvuitton women’s ad campaign. #Genderfluidity#TransIsBeautiful #nonbinary #highfashion”

Three cheers for gender fluidity!
The brand’s creative director Nicolas Ghesqui├â┬¿re also explained why he chose Jaden to appear in the womenswear campaign:

“Why does Jaden Smith star in this campaign? He represents a generation that has assimilated the codes of true freedom, one that is free of manifestos and questions about gender. Wearing a skirt comes as naturally to him as it would to a woman who, long ago, granted herself permission to wear a man’s trench or a tuxedo.”
“Jaden Smith conveys something very interesting about the integration of a global wardrobe. He’s found an instinctive balance that makes his extraordinary attitude a new norm. That really inspired me in the creative process for this collection.”

The truth is skirts, robes, dresses, kilts, etc. were a very common form of dress for men throughout history. It’s only recently that men have been relegated to wearing only pants.
We welcome this shift in fashion, and hope there’s more to come!
