Oh no. Not Uncle Phil.
Fresh Prince Of Bel Air star James Avery, known to TV audiences around the world as Will Smith‘s Uncle Phil, has died.
James’ publicist broke the news on Wednesday that the beloved TV star passed after serious complications from open-heart surgery.
Both a veteran and a veteran actor, James was known for his numerous guest roles on everything from L.A. Law to That 70s Show, and as the iconic voice of Shredder on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
James’ final performance, in Zach Braff‘s Wish I Was Here, will premiere at Sundance this month.
But he will always be remembered as one of TV’s greatest father figures, the King of the Fresh Prince family, Philip Banks.
He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and an entire generation of fans. He’ll always be our favorite uncle. So sad.
