James Cameron is making sure audiences keep going to the movies, one blockbuster sequel at a time!
The Oscar-winning filmmaker announced that he will now make four (yes, FOUR) sequels to his 2009 hit Avatar.
Making a special appearance at Thursday’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the Titanic director said that his vision for future installments of the fantasy epic has expanded over time.
Originally, Cameron only wanted to do two sequels, but decided on three after realizing he had too much material for only two films — and now he added one more, because why the eff not!?

Cameron noted that the select few people who have seen the initial concepts were left “speechless” by what they saw, telling theater owners:

“We have decided to embark on a truly massive cinematic project, making four epic films, each of which stands alone but together forms a complete saga├óΓé¼┬ª So far, what I am seeing in pure imagination is far beyond the first film.”

The 61-year-old made it clear that he was looking to preserve the theater-going experience, noting his sequels “were designed to be seen in theaters and on the big screen first.”
As for release dates, Cameron said the “game plan” is for Avatar 2 to hit theaters at Christmas 2018 — with sequels following in late 2020, 2022, and 2023!
Well, he’s certainly hyping this up! Let’s hope the filmmaker’s head isn’t just in the clouds of Pandora!
