James McAvoy isn’t known for talking about his private life.
Which is why it was particularly shocking to see that the Split actor got candid about his life after splitting from his wife of nine years, Anne-Marie Duff — even if it was just to state how he wasn’t going to talk about his former flame.

Nonetheless, during a recent chat with Mr. Porter, the Atonement star DID give some insight into his personal life. The 37-year-old first opened up about his no-alcohol in the house (specifically whiskey) policy as he noted:
“That used to be my drink├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥a peaty Talisker, or a Laphroaig. But I find that I can’t drink too much whisky any more. More than one or two now and I get a bit leery, a wee bit fighty, a bit chippy, looking for an argument. And I didn’t like that. So I mostly stopped drinking it. My problem is, if I have it in the house, I’ll tan the lot.”
Talk about an honest answer! However, McAvoy isn’t innerested in getting into what it’s like to be single again as he dished:
“My life has changed massively. At the same time so much has stayed the same. One of the things that’s stayed the same is that I still don’t talk about my personal life, really.”
Hey, that’s very fair. He continued:
“Me and Anne-Marie, when we were together, it was our policy not to speak about each other in public. We rarely broke that and if we did, it was for tiny things├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥’Yes, we are cooking turkey this Christmas’├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥and that policy still stands. Even separated, we’re still respectful of each other and committed to doing that publicly and personally.”
We’re sure the Shameless (UK) alum appreciates James’ unwillingness to talk about their past history together. Although, the X-Men: Apocalypse performer did tease one thing about his everyday situation as he added:
“Yeah, things are really good, which is a rubbish, pat answer.”
And, despite their split, McAvoy still clearly holds Anne-Marie in high regard as he credited her for convincing him to do a Prada campaign. The Scottish hottie explained:
“The money was incredible. And Anne-Marie kept saying to me, ‘Are you gonna turn that down?’ ‘Yeah I’m gonna turn that down. I’m not a salesman.’ ├óΓé¼╦£You’re being a d*ck. Do something with it. Give it to charity… And I was like, ‘Ding!’ About four minutes after she said that to me I was on the phone to the agent. ‘Yeah, I’ll do it.'”
Sniff. We think a piece of our hearts are still hoping James and Anne-Marie will reconcile someday. *sigh*
