It’s been a busy weekend for Janet Jackson… But for all the wrong reasons.
Over the weekend, Michael Jackson’s little sister caused quite the stir by repeating some untrue rhetoric about Kamala Harris, which can be traced back to her presidential opponent Donald Trump. Basically, in an interview with The Guardian published on Saturday, the All for You singer questioned whether Kamala is truly Black. In response to a question about how she would feel about Kamala being the first female Black president, she responded:
“Well, you know what they supposedly said? She’s not Black. That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian.”
After being corrected by a journalist who informed her that Kamala is both Indian and Black, the 58-year-old perpetuated a blatant lie. She said:
“Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white.”
For the record, it’s well documented that Kamala’s father, Donald J. Harris, is Jamaican.
In addition to the comments about Kamala’s heritage, Janet also responded to a question about whether she believes America is ready for a female president. She said:
“I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t want to answer that because I really, truthfully, don’t know. I think either way it goes is going to be mayhem.”
Uhhhh, WOW…

Her statements riled a lot of people up, particularly because this has been a narrative right-wing conservatives have been trying to push. So with all the backlash, an apology was seemingly issued by Janet’s camp. On Sunday, a man named Mo Elmasri, who claimed to be her manager, told Buzzfeed that her comments were “based on misinformation,” and that the pop star apologized for “any confusion caused.” He said:
“Janet Jackson would like to clarify her recent comments. She recognizes that her statements regarding Vice President Kamala Harris’ racial identity were based on misinformation. Janet respects Harris’ dual heritage as both Black and Indian and apologizes for any confusion caused. She values the diversity Harris represents and understands the importance of celebrating that in today’s society. Janet remains committed to promoting unity and understanding.”
Great, right?! However, here’s the deal… That apology on Janet’s behalf was NOT authorized!!!
Later on Sunday, a rep confirmed to Variety that Mo is NOT in fact Janet’s manager, and that her brother Randy Jackson is instead! However, Mo then clarified to the outlet:
“I no longer work for her. I was fired by Janet and Randy, after attempts to improve her image in front of public opinion and her fans, and this is something I do not deserve.”
Yikes!!! For what it’s worth, he threw his total support behind Kamala… Which is a LOT more than Janet is willing to do!
