Japan has said that it still plans to slaughter hunt whales this winter, despite pleas from activists everywhere.
They say they are doing “research” so nothing illegal is going on but anti-whaling activists say the whale meat ends up being sold to restaurants.
The Japanese killed almost 200 whales in just the South Ocean last season.
The Japanese have hired an agency to guard their whaling vessels during the hunt, but the anti-whalers are ready for a fight, saying:
“They will have to kill us to prevent us from intervening once again. … We will undertake whatever risks to our lives will be required to stop this invasion of arrogant greed into what is an established sanctuary for the whales.”
