Girl power!
On Monday, it was reported that the Arizona Cardinals hired what’s believed to be the first ever female coach of any kind to the NFL. AH-Mazing!
The football team appointed Jen Welter as an assistant coaching intern, for training camp and the pre-season, to work with inside linebackers. Whoa!
The Arizona team’s head coach Bruce Arians was asked back in March when the league would have a female coach.

He responded:
“Someone asked me yesterday, ‘When are we going to have female coaches?’ The minute they can prove they can make a player better, they’ll be hired.”
We guess that day was July 27. LOLz!
The new hire confirmed the news as she took to her Twitter account.
She posted:
LOVES it!
However, this isn’t the first time the brunette beauty’s made sports history. In fact, Miz Welter was the first female coach in a men’s professional football league when she was appointed by the Texas Revolution of the Indoor Football League — where she coached linebackers and special teams.
Just last year, the 37-year-old was the first female player to play a non-kicking position in a men’s professional league when she played running back, as well as special teams, for the Revolution. Wow!
Not only that, the semi-professional player has played football for more than 14 years. She previously played as a linebacker for the Dallas Diamonds for most of her career — as a part of the Women’s Football Alliance.
Not to mention she has four championships under her belt. That’s one heck of a resume.
Welter’ll join linebackers coaches Bob Sanders, Larry Foote, and Levon Kirkland. So exciting!
There is a press conference scheduled for Tuesday so stay tuned for updates!
