The old gang was back Thursday night on Jersey Shore Family Vacation — well, almost the whole gang.
Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola decided to skip the reunion series altogether, saying she wanted to avoid “toxic situations.”
And based on what Ronnie Ortiz-Magro said about their relationship in the premiere, we can’t blame her.

Finally speaking about their breakup, he revealed his inability to commit was what tore them apart. He said:
“Once we left the shore house, me and Sam decided we were going to take the next step — we moved in with each other. And we were getting towards that stage where it was like, I either have to shit or get off the pot.
She gave me a timeline. She was like, I want to get married in six months — and I’m still trying to figure my life out. I got cold feet. I wanted to do the right thing, but there was a part of me that was like, ├óΓé¼╦£I’m not going to do the right thing.’ So I didn’t do it. I ended up cheating, she found out. I blew it. It’s over.”
WHOA. He kind of breezed over that whole cheating thing! That seems a little more serious than his cold feet…
At least Ronnie is somewhat self aware. In talking about his girlfriend Jen Harley, he told Pauly D he didn’t think her pregnancy was “the most ideal situation” but that he’d never have that anyway:
“I’ll always be a shitty husband, I’ll always be a shitty boyfriend, but I’ll never be a shitty father.”
Damn. One day he’s going to learn you can make better choices and not just blame it on “who you are.” We hope it’s not too late.
He did at least try to stay positive about Sammi’s side. When Deena Nicole Cortese tried to defend her absent friend against anyone making jokes, he responded:
“Listen, I’ll never say anything bad about her. She’s a great woman, she’s going to make a great mother, a great wife. She is absolutely amazing. She just was not for me.”
Now that’s a better attitude.
It did not last.

Later in the episode, in the heat of the moment at the club Ronnie unleashed on Sammi for not being there, telling Deena:
“She’s not here. She’s not our friend. She doesn’t have our backs. Because if she did, she’d be here with us. I’m having a motherfucking kid and I’m still here. What the fuck does she got going on that’s more important than me?”
Um, a little thing called not you?
After filming, Ronnie opened up more to People about the experience of filming one more time without his longtime love:
“On the one hand, it sucked because we all started this together so we wanted to end it together. But at the same time, it worked out better for me because it was just less drama for the house. Less fighting and bickering. Who really wants to live in a house with their ex? That’s just the most uncomfortable feeling in the world.”
He continued:
“She’s chosen a path in her life and she closed the door on Jersey Shore. That was one chapter in her life, and now she’s opened up another one, and she has a boyfriend and she’s really happy and that’s a decision that she made. And us as a family and as castmates and friends that have known her for so long, we’re just going to support whatever she does.”
