Jessica Alba Went To Therapy To Learn To 'Communicate Better' With Daughter Honor

Jessica Alba is speaking out about learning to communicate better with her tween!
Attendees of Her Campus Media‘s eighth annual Her Conference on Saturday soaked up wisdom from the 38-year-old about being a mother, entrepreneur, and actress.

The mother-of-three shared that she has chosen to go to therapy with 10-year-old Honor so she can “learn to be a better mother to her and communicate better with her,” per The Hollywood Reporter. In addition to her almost 11-year-old, Jess is also a mother to daughter Haven and son Hayes with husband Cash Warren.
We think it’s totally admirable, but the actress says it wouldn’t have happened when she was growing up:

“Some people think, like in my family, you talk to a priest and that’s it. I don’t really feel comfortable talking to him about my feelings. I didn’t grow up in an environment where you talked about this stuff, and it was just like shut it down and keep it moving… So I find a lot of inspiration just in talking to my kids.”

In May, the L.A.’s Finest actress revealed in an interview with Jimmy Fallon that she’s “just not emotionally ready for a preteen or a tween or whatever, like hormones and crushes.”
The star continued:

“I don’t encourage drama, so I’m like, ‘Honor, it’s not appropriate for you to have a boyfriend. It doesn’t even make sense. You’re in fifth grade, like where are you gonna go?’ She’s like, ‘But mom,’ and she likes to talk about drama and I’m like, ‘Honor, we don’t really do drama and she’s like, ‘Mom, but I love drama.'”

LOLz! We’re sure plenty of parents can relate!

While at the El Lay conference, the Never Been Kissed actress also spoke of her business The Honest Company, and how she was initially underestimated in the industry:

“There are very few companies that understand the value of diversity and the value of women and women in the workplace. I brought on business partners, and they weren’t always aligned with what I wanted to do. It’s been a very interesting and challenging thing, because like I said in the beginning, my co-founders didn’t understand why it’s so important, because I was the only woman.”

Miz Alba also revealed that she initially struggled breaking into the acting industry as a young woman of color:

“This town is really hard to try and be successful in, in a town that also didn’t know what to do with a girl who looked like me, because they’re like, ‘Yeah you don’t look like a leading lady because you’re exotic.’ And I was like, ‘I’m Mexican.’ And they were like, ‘Exotic.’ I’m not going to feed into your stereotype, because the Mexican women I know are intelligent and they hold the freaking house together.”

Seems like her kids definitely have a great role model to look up to and talk to!!
